This is a little off the beaten path but many of us out there have pets and the health of that pet is very important to us. There is a new site out there called Dog Health that addresses some health issues every pet owner should be aware of. The url for the site is http://www.dog-health.power-of-knowledge.com/index.htm .

The site is growing and adding new content. You can currently find the following information on the site:
  • Dog Health - range of information on health issues
  • Dog skin allergies - learn how dogs can be effected by allergies too
  • Mange - learn the in and outs about mange and how to treat it
  • Fleas and ticks - they are more of a problem then you think!
  • Dog Bloat - learn the signs of this potentially fatal condition.

Happy B-day to me

Well it was my birthday last week and I decided to buy myself and iPod. It was one of those from me to me gifts - with my wifes permission of course :-). I've been wanting something to take to the gym for my workouts and after talking to my brother-in-law the iPod sounded the way to go. I was about to buy the iPod Nano but the 30 BG iPod Video offered so much more for a $100 difference in price.

So I got a Black 30 GB iPod Video and I have to say that I am blown away by this thing. I just about uploaded ever CD I own and I have barely scratched the surface on the diskspace used. The sound is amazing and the video looks incredible.

I paid $300 for my iPod but it looks like Amazon has a little better deal on them. You can view iPods on their site by clicking here. So if you are in the market for a MP3 player I highly recommend that you at least look into an iPod.

Gerald

Carbs

There are some out there that believe you should eliminate or drastically reduce your carbohydrate intake when you diet but I really follow a different belief system. Carbs are important to your well being and if you eliminate them you can start to experience some memory loss, constipation and over time some long-term health problems. The key is to eat high quality carbs and time when you eat specific types of carbohydrates.

On a normal day my first four meals consist of complex carbs and I change my last two meals to a more fibrous carbohydrate. I also eat fruit in my diet but usually have it in my early meals (With the exception of the days I workout my legs. I eat a banana after my leg workouts to prevent cramping) For my diet I mainly stick to red potatoes, yams, brown rice and oatmeal for my complex carbs. The fibrous carbohydrates that I eat include vegetables such as broccoli, green beans and salads.

You can see more of my recommended food list on my new site www.increase-metabolism.power-of-knowledge.com.

All the best,
Gerald

Still dieting

My wife and I are still sticking with out new diet program and have both done very well over the past few holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years). Since late November my wife has lost 24 pounds and serveral inches off of her waist and belly. I myself have lost around 17 pounds and around three inches off my waist and belly too.

Our program really isn't that difficult it just takes discipline to stick with it. One of the major contributing factors to our dieting sucsses is that we have one day a week were we can eat anything we want. The 'cheat meal' or 'cheat day' (depending on where you are at in a dieting process) really helps us shock our bodies and burn the fat off the body. I'm working on a new website that goes into detail on my diet plan. The real key is to increase your metabolism. You can learn more about increasing your own metabolism at the following links:

Increase metabolism - goes into detail how we are increasing our metabolism
Recommended food list - foods that I recommend for a healthy fat burning diet
Free diet plans - Rough outline of our current diet (still a work in progress)
Supplements - Outline of recommended supplements (work in progress)
